Lawmakers in the Michigan House will get a glimpse at House Speaker Kevin Cotter’s proposed plan to fund road repairs in the state.
Cotter has scheduled an afternoon news conference to unveil the plan.
He first hinted at a proposal he hopes can garner the backing of both Republicans and Democrats in the House a day after Proposal 1 was defeated at the polls.
He’s optimistic lawmakers can reach an agreement on a road funding plan in the next two months.
The Michigan Senate, meanwhile, is taking a more deliberate approach to finding a road repair funding solution.
Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof told reporters last week to not plan a vacation because lawmakers would be meeting through the summer to find a solution.
Sure enough, the Senate on Tuesday announced a summer schedule adding an additional 30-working days to the calendar.
Lawmakers were set to meet just six days combined in July and August.
