Restrictions On Local Benefits Requirements Passes Senate Committee

The Michigan Senate has fast-tracked a bill stripping local governments of their ability to require employers to offer certain wages and benefits.

The bill cleared a Senate committee Thursday and passed the full Senate a few hours later. It has to go back to the House for a final vote.

Opponents of the legislation say it strips local governments of much-needed local control.

Those backing it say it prevents a patchwork of laws from community to community.
