Republican Urged To Change Stance On Gay Rights

Some young conservatives within the Republican party who support gay rights are urging party leaders to drop anti-gay language from the Republican Party Platform.

They are coming through Michigan this week after previous stops in several other states.

Others within the party have said the platform language opposing same sex marriage is important for the party and must not be removed.

Brian Savage of the Log Cabin Republicans in Michigan, a longtime gay-rights group within the GOP, says while they have to respect the social conservatives within the party, it’s time to change. He adds that they “need to appeal to the (most conservative) voters but also stand up for the rights of others. You can have both.”
