Republican Convention Gets Underway In Cleveland

Michigan’s Republican delegation is in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio this morning as the Republican National Convention begins in Cleveland.

59 delegates will be holding breakfast meetings with some keynote speakers each day before heading to the convention in Cleveland.

Attorney General Bill Schuette is scheduled to speak Monday afternoon at Quicken Loans Arena.

Donald Trump is expected to deliver his nomination acceptance speech on Thursday.

Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Ronna Romney McDaniel is there and believes the party will unite behind Donald Trump.

That’s despite the fact that her uncle, former Republican nominee Mitt Romney won’t attend the convention because he won’t support Trump.

She says she and her uncle have exchanged emails.

The Michigan State Police has deployed over 100 uniform personnel to Cleveland.

MSP First Lt. Michael Shaw says they’ll be helping out with security and crowd management during the seven days they’re there.

Shaw says they will also be providing security for any protestors outside the RNC.
