Opponents of the governor’s decision to pause the settling of new Syrian immigrants into the state have delivered more than 4,500 signatures condemning the plan.
Supporters have said the pause is needed until Homeland Security finishes a review of its vetting process for immigrants, to ensure terrorists don’t come to the state.
Dave Maluchnick of the Michigan Catholic conference understands that, but he believes refugees should continue to come to the state once the vetting process review is finished.
But opponents of the governor’s move call it racist and xenophobic.
