Legislation introduced in the Michigan House would require Lutheran Social Services and Catholic Social Services to file a report with the state on the number of refugees coming in to Michigan, where they are going and how much it will cost the state and the communities where they’re headed.
State Representative Jim Runestad is sponsoring the bill and says the feds won’t cough over the information so he wants the two social service agencies that take in the refugees to provide it.
He says there’s a cap on the number of refugees that can be sent to a community however he doesn’t think the cap is being followed.
If the state had more data on refugees, Runestad says it could then enforce the cap.
