Last night at the Houghton City Council meeting, a public hearing was held for the city’s application for a DNR Trust Fund Grant for the Central Houghton Green Space Area, which is located on 7th Avenue near Franklin Road. After a few comments from the community members including the president of the Copper Country Audubon, which along with the Keweenaw Land Trust will provide $21,000 of the funds, the resolution was approved by the council. City Manager Eric Waara says the city became involved in the acquisition of the area due to its unique nature.
Also approved are the facade bids for improvements to Downtown Houghton which include the Hall, Hartman and Daavetilla buildings.
