Push Underway To Make Ladybug Official State Insect

A bill has been introduced in the Michigan House to make the ladybug the official insect of Michigan.

State Representative Ed McBroom is sponsoring the bill on behalf of Connor Royer, a third grader at Lemmer Elementary in Escanaba.

Connor learned, through a history lesson, that Michigan doesn’t have a state insect so he started a petition drive and collected thousands of signatures to convince McBroom to introduce the bill.

Jeffrey Wright, Connor’s teacher, says his persistence shows his classmates you can do anything if you put your mind to it.

The bill hasn’t been heard in a House committee yet but if it is McBroom wants Connor to come down and testify.
