Construction on M-26 will begin soon and MDOT wants to unveil their plans to the public. They have scheduled a public meeting for today at 6pm at the MDOT Houghton garage in Calumet to share construction plans for M-26 in Franklin Township from the Portage Lake Lift Bridge to Sixth Street in Dollar Bay. The project is scheduled for this coming construction season. Residents and business owners can review the plans and ask questions at this public meeting. From the bridge to Military Road, the project will widen the roadway from two to three lanes with a center left-turn lane and realign the route with shallower curves. The remainder of the roadway, from Military Road to Sixth Street, will be paved. A side road, Slattery Road, will be closed from Second Street to M-26. MDOT plans to maintain through-traffic throughout construction using temporary roadways under flag control. An alternate route along U.S.41 will be signed.
