Primary Election Recap

There will be a new Houghton county commissioner in District 1 as Tom Tikkanen was defeated by Eugene Londo in yesterday’s primary election. Londo will take on Rick Kasprzak in the general election with the only other race among the Houghton County commissioners being between Tony Pintar and Mark Kempainen in District 3. In the 1st Congressional District incumbent Dan Benishek defeated Alan Arcand, taking home 70% of the votes. Benishek will try to keep his seat as he faces Jerry Canon in November. In the 38th State Senate District for the Democratic ticket, which was one of the final races called, Christopher Germain defeated Chris LeMarche by 144 votes. Germain will go up against incumbent Tom Casperson in the general election. Also in Keweenaw County, Richard Schaefer defeated Gordon Jaaskelainen for the Democratic nomination in the race for the County Road Commissioner.
