Tonight will be the first Houghton city council meeting of 2014 and there is much to discuss. Leftover from 2013 is a proposal to make amendments to the Houghton zoning code. The first two resolutions of the new year deal with deficit elimination plans, one for the Downtown Development Authority, which is expected to be eliminated by 2018 and the other for the water fund, which will be eliminated this year. Also up for approval is the contract for new city manager Eric Waara, which will be five years long.
