A trio of Michigan House Republicans has wasted no time in pushing for a complete repeal of Michigan’s prevailing wage law.
The law, which has been criticized by conservatives for decades, requires hourly pay on government construction projects to be based on the prevailing wage in a given area.
The legislators say the law artificially inflates costs for such projects.
Governor Rick Snyder has said repealing the law is not on his list of priorities this year, but he has stopped short of saying he opposes such legislation.
The three-bill package is sponsored by Michigan House Republicans Brad Jacobsen, Aric Nesbitt and Amanda Price. They are the first bills introduced in the house for the 2015-2016 legislative session.
Supporters of the existing law say it prevents the destabilization of local and regional construction markets.
