Pot Hole Season Accompanying Early Spring

The early spring that was promised seems to be here and with that, pot hole season is well underway.

Craters have been popping up all over to swallow cars, with some motorists saying Dodge Street in Houghton is living up to its name.

Houghton City Manager Eric Waara told the City Council at the regular meeting Wednesday that crews are working to patch the holes as quickly as possible.

More closures of the Portage Lake Lift Bridge are coming.

In his report to the council, Houghton Police Chief John Donnelly said the Michigan Department of Transportation is planning 15 minutes delays next week after 7pm with half hour delays after 11pm.

The next three weeks following would include testing during the day with intermittent short term delays.

In other business, the annual arrangement between the city and the Senior Class of Houghton High School was struck again.

The city will donate a certain amount of money to the class to support their substance-free graduation party in return for students showing up to help do a little spring cleaning in the city.

The more students that show up, the larger the donation.
