The latest COVID-19 update from Copper Country Strong and the Western Upper Peninsula Health Department shows good news. Disease activity lessened again. In the past week there were only 17 new cases in Houghton, Baraga, and Keweenaw Counties combined. Baraga led in absolute and relative terms again, but it continues to improve.
Ten cases countywide is roughly equivalent to the outbreak just within L’Anse High School at the end of April. Houghton had eight cases and Keweenaw had a prior positive removed from its tally.
Vaccination rates have flatlined, but adoption has been strong in the most vulnerable population subsets. Over 70 percent of elderly adults have gotten all required doses.
