Portage Lake District Library Reaches Agreement with Chassell Township Board

The Portage Lake District Library has reached an agreement with the Chassell Township Board to provide library services to Chassell Township residents for an additional year. Last November, the Township voted to withdraw from membership in the Library District effective at the end of 2017, but this agreement ensures that residents have continued, free access to the library until December 31, 2018.

In exchange for service, the Township will provide the Library with all penal fine revenue allocated to the Township for the 2018 year, and the Library will remain entitled to the Township’s state aid allocated for Library use in 2018. The Chassell Township Board has also agreed to waive any rights to the library’s existing assets.

“Under the agreement in place, Library patrons in Chassell Township will now be able to continue accessing all of our materials and resources until December 31, 2018,” said Library Director Dillon Geshel. “After that date, Chassell Township residents will be required to purchase a non-resident membership.”

For more information, please call the library at 482-4570.
