The Portage Lake District Library’s floor redesign plans are taking a very big step forward this week. Library officials are inviting local contractors to an open house to begin looking into what it will take to complete work for phase one of the project. The first phase expects to complete painting, and install new carpeting. As well as construct three new group meeting rooms, add mobile shelving, and the teen reader area.
“About 450,000 dollars is the general ball park figure for the entire project, both phase one and phase two. We have enough in reserved public funds to cover phase one ourselves. And that’s going to be happening in May. Katrina Linde-Moriarty, Library Director, Portage Lake District Library
The Portage Lake District Library plans to recreate the Portage Canal with their carpet design. Blue carpeting will make up the canal, which will run through the building’s floor plan. And be surrounded by light browns and green carpet, in order to show the geographic area of Houghton and Hancock. Contractors interested in attending the library’s open house can attend the event on Friday at 1pm. Call the Portage Lake District Library at 906 482 4570 for more information.
