A mother and son lost in the Porcupine Mountains State Park have been found. Michigan State Police from the Wakefield post say they were dispatched to the Lake of the Clouds Viewing Area around 8:30 p.m. Tuesday night to find a lost 37-year-old woman and her 11-year-old son. Troopers were advised that the pair had become separated from their family while attempting to take an alternate route back to the park. State Police Troopers and Park Rangers from the Department of Natural Resources were unable to locate the mother and son, and further assistance from the MSP Calumet Post’s K-9 unit was also unsuccessful. The search was discontinued due to poor lighting conditions and visibility at around 2:00 a.m. Wednesday morning. Police say the search resumed four hours later, with the added assistance of a Coast Guard Helicopter by mid-morning. At approximately 8:30 a.m., the pair were found by the K-9 unit on the Carp River Trail located around a half mile west from their last known location. The mother and son were found in good spirits and were reunited with their family.
