Planned Parenthood Being Squeezed Out Of State Budget

The Michigan House has passed a nearly $38 billion budget that would keep state money from organizations like Planned Parenthood.

The general government budget was approved Tuesday on a 59-51 vote.

It includes language that blocks state contracts with organizations that provide elective abortions, abortion counseling or abortion referrals. It also bans organizations under contract with the state from doing the same.

House Democrats say the GOP-led chamber should not have passed the omnibus budget. Republicans say the last two budgets included no money for those organizations and they wanted to make sure that wouldn’t change in the future.
