Phone and Internet Scams in Houghton County

The Houghton County Sheriff’s Office has recently seen an influx in telephone and Internet scams. The scams have included people calling and identifying themselves as companies such as Microsoft or local businesses seeking personal information or computer access. Other scams include the request to send money abroad to a loved one or friend in trouble. Police want the public to be aware of these scams and to call the police department if the public has any questions.
