Pertussis Cases in Iron Mountain

Officials at Dickinson Memorial Hospital in Iron Mountain have instituted visitor restrictions in response to an increasing community wide threat of Pertussis, commonly known as whooping cough. The restrictions were put into place late Thursday and will remain in effect until further notice. The Dickinson-Iron District Health Department is evaluating the potential for community wide spread of the disease. Health officials reported last week that there have now been 4 cases of pertussis confirmed in children attending Dickinson County schools. Reported levels of pertussis activity remain high in Michigan and several other states.
