Calumet Township is celebrating their 150th Anniversary this year and Main Street Calumet has just released their summer schedule of popular events.
The Main Street Calumet Farmer’s Market will be open Saturdays starting June 18th in their new location—in Theater Park, between the Calumet Theater and Shute’s Bar.
Pastyfest will also see some changes.
Executive Director of Main Street Calumet Leah Polzien says the event will be a 5th Street Fair, instead of being held in the park.
Pastyfest takes place Saturday, June 25th.
The first ever Calumet Music Festival will be held on August 6th and the Sesquicentennial Celebration will be held August 19th and 20th.
Main Street Calumet is currently seeking vendors for their three major programs.
If you would like to participate as a vendor or support any of these programs with a corporate sponsorship, please visit mainstreetcalumet.com or email the program director at leah@mainstreetcalumet.com for more details.

Calumet, MI, (May 17, 2016) – Building on the momentum of the last several weeks of town hall community meetings, power brainstorming sessions nailing down committees to organize and plan the summer events schedule; Leah Polzien and Main Street Calumet, are gearing up for an exciting and productive summer program season!
While there are many events happening in Calumet this summer season, Main Street is focused on 4 key programs.
The first is the Main Street Calumet Farmers Market, which will be held every Saturday starting June 18 through early October. The Main Street Farmers Market will be host to several food producers, including North Harvest CSA, Keweenaw Coffee Works, Circle Back Farm and others, as handmade artisan producers. Focused on fresh, local foods and artisanal goods, as well as hosting local organizations for kids and food centric activities, the market is ready to expand is current roster of vendors as well as seeks sponsorship to expand market offerings and education programing.
The second major event scheduled is Pasty Fest on Saturday, June 25. This year’s Pasty Fest will have a fresh location and some exciting new activities! Pasty Fest will be set up as a street fair, lining 5th Street with tents, musicians and artists. There will be a parade, beverage tent, pasty competitions for both commercial as well as individual, chalk art competition for both kids and adults, among other activities. We think that moving the location to 5th Street, along with extending the events schedule for the day, will breathe a breath of fresh air into the family friendly festivities!
Third, Calumet is going to see a brand new event this summer! Saturday, August 6th will be the 1st Annual Calumet Music Festival held in Agassiz Park from noon-8pm. The event will feature live music from the Hadden Sayers Band, featuring celebrated soul-blues rocker Hadden Sayers from Texas, local favorites Boodie Creek Band, The Wing Nuts and more. Festival goers can expect a great selection of food from area restaurants and adult beverages!
Finally, The BIG 150 – Calumet Township’s Sesquicentennial week-long celebration, will end with a bang on August 19 and August 20. A multi-agency committee is currently organizing sponsorships, food and beverage vendors, parade route, fireworks display, and schedule of activities.
“We (Main Street Calumet) are really excited about all the events we have planned for the summer. I am thrilled to see how many dedicated individuals are stepping up to the plate to make Calumet a real destination spot for the upcoming summer tourist season. We have a lot of momentum working to our advantage; our Farmers Market, Pasty Fest, Music Fest and the Big 150 committees are working hard on community outreach and planning.” Leah Polzien, Main Street Calumet – Executive Director.
Main Street Calumet is currently seeking vendors for 3 of their major summer programs: Main Street Farmers Market, Pasty Fest and The Big 150. The Main Street website is set up for business, and has all forms, guidelines and information vendors might require for participating in these events. If you would like to participate as a vendor or support any of these programs with a corporate sponsorship, please visit mainstreetcalumet.com or email the program director at leah@mainstreetcalumet.com for more details.
“Having a market that supports the local food system, as well as provides information and activities to educate the public about the Keweenaw and all the wonderful organizations that make this place so great is a key element to having a successful market. We are working hard to have all this information really available to vendors interested in participating, which is why we are encouraging everyone to visit the Main Street website often. We are busy adding content every day.” – Valerie Baciak, Farmers Market Committee, Marketing and Digital Strategist.
