Pasty Fest set to feature record number of vendors

Pasty Fest is this Saturday and it is set to live up to its name. Main Street Calumet’s Leah Polzien says there will be more businesses and organizations selling the Cornish comfort food than ever before. It’s not all eats. There are lots of wares to peruse if you attend.

We close off Fifth Street. There’s a car show, there’s craft vendors. That’s been stretching from the 100 block to the 200 block, then the 300 block, and now into the 400 block, which has typically been quieter. We don’t even close that section of street because we don’t even fill it, and this year we are sure gonna try.

Polzien says that COVID restrictions and her new daughter caused planning for this year’s Pasty Fest to start later than normal, but she is excited to see it come together.

In addition to the excellent business representation, summer events that were able to happen this year have enjoyed great attendance. At last month’s Chassell Lions Club Strawberry Festival a record number turned out for the parade. The Queens competition had an overflow crowd at the pavilion, and they sold out of shortcake. Tourism is up, hotel rooms are scarce. Everything points to interest from the general community, and area visitors alike, for Saturday’s pasty party.
