Parade of Nations Seeks More Cultural Floats and Groups to Represent International Communities

Students have flown in from far away to start the fall semester at Michigan Tech University. International flags are lined up along Quincy Street in Hancock. All signs of the upcoming parade of nations, next week. The parade celebrates not only Michigan Tech’s diverse student body, and students coming from all over the world. But also celebrates the Copper Country’s immigrant history and remaining cultures. Community members are encouraged to join the parade itself and carry their flag.

Think about adopting a flag, and walking that flag in the parade. It doesn’t need to be your country of origin. It could be a country that means something to you. Adopt that flag, and walk that flag from the Quincy Green, at 11 a.m. to noon. You will reach the Dee Stadium at noon.” – Mariana Nakashima, Senior Admin. Aide, Michigan Tech Department of International Programs and Services

Parade of Nations organizers are still accepting groups building floats for a country, and groups planning to represent a country’s flag. After the parade, students and the community are invited to the multicultural festival at Dee Stadium, to share international dishes and a a dance performance from Bollywood Glam. Go online to find more information about Michigan Tech’s Parade of Nations taking place next Saturday, on September 16th.
