Paper Merger Helps UP

Two paper companies, NewPage and Verso, have merged and timber industry officials in the Upper Peninsula are happy.

Bill Hennigan of Ishpeming, president of the Great Lakes Timber Professional’s Association says it will help stabilize that industry in the U.P. and also provide jobs

Hennigan says the timber industry has changed since he first started working as a forester in the U.P.

The harvesters, skidders and other logging equipment are on display at the Great lakes Logging and Heavy Equipment Expo, now underway in Escanaba.

It runs through Saturday at the U.P. State Fairgrounds.
