Ontonagon Man Faces Jail Time for Forgery

An Ontonagon man faces a possible 37-year jail sentence for allegedly forging and cashing checks from an unfinished construction job in the City of Gladstone. UPSET detectives assisted troopers from the Gladstone Post of the Michigan State Police with the arrest of 46-year-old Bruce Michael Sever. He’s charged with larceny by false pretenses, and two counts of forgery and larceny of less than $20,000 from a building. Police say Sever is suspected of accepting money for a Gladstone construction job he did not complete. He allegedly forged and cashed checks from the victim’s account. He has a preliminary exam scheduled for July 3rd. If convicted, he faces 14 years for each count of forgery, five years for larceny by false pretenses, and four years for larceny from a building.
