Preparing for death can cause stress on any family. Understanding that cost is vital to making sure a family can focus on the person that matters when the time comes. The Omega House fund helps lift some of the financial burden for income-qualified residents.
We don’t want any financial barriers for someone to come here. The funds raised here go to a care fund that offers up to 30 days of free care for certain individuals who meet an income requirement. And so when the average stay here for our residents is roughly three weeks, some families never see a bill. – Mike Lutz, Executive Director, Omega House
At the end of the month, Omega House will host its annual concert supporting the Omega House Fund. This year the group will bring in a Queen tribute band that Executive Director Mike Lutz says he’s had an eye on for a while. The band has also had an eye on a sort of homecoming.
Within a day I had a response back that they would be happy to come up and do our benefit for them. And a fun fact is that two of their members are Michigan Tech alumni, a husband and wife. This is an eight-person band and the husband and wife met in the mid-80s at Michigan Tech and they’re still married today and looking at it as a homecoming. So we’re trying to engage the community to come out and welcome them and hopefully some of the Michigan Tech community. – Mike Lutz, Executive Director, Omega House
Along with the concert at the Rozsa Center, the event will include an auction for a Fender Guitar; and has been donated to the concert for the auction from a friend of the facility.
And again, this year, similar to last year, we are gonna have what we call a fundraiser within the fundraiser. And we have a Fender guitar, an American Ultra Fender guitar that was donated a couple of years ago, actually, from a good donor for Omega House, who loves our mission. This is a beautiful guitar with a retail value of about $2,000. And really for as little as $5, you can buy a raffle ticket when you walk in. We’ll be selling tickets during the show when you walk in at intermission. And then we’ll draw the winner towards the end of the concert on Saturday night. – Mike Lutz, Executive Director, Omega House
The Omega house Presents the Crown Jewels; a Queen Tribute at the Rozsa Center will take the stage on September 28th. Tickets for the concert will cost 30 dollars for general admission. All proceeds raised during the event will benefit the Omega House Fund, supporting hospice care in Houghton County.
