Obituary: Rose Hatala

As received from the Erickson Crowley Peterson Funeral Home:

Rose Marie (Zagar) Hatala, age 97, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 8, 2024 at Canal View in Hancock, where she resided for the past 7 years. Rose was born on May 9, 1927 in Painesdale, Michigan to Slavko and Mary (Krismanich) Zagar. She attended Jeffers High School and married Theodore (Ted) Hatala in 1943. They had two daughters together (Cheryl and Lynn) before parting ways many years later.

Rose worked at various jobs over the years, retiring at age 69 from the bank in Mohawk where she had worked for 19 years as a teller. She was very proud of two things that she had accomplished in her life; one was that she was able to buy her own home and the other was that she had outlived all of her 10 siblings. Rose was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church of Mohawk.

Rose was preceded in death by her parents and her life partner, Hub Wetelainen. She was also preceded in death by her brothers John, Anton, Stephen, Slavko, and Joseph; her sisters Ann, Frances, Margaret, Lorraine, and Kathryn (Dolly); her son-in-law Bruce King; and her great grandson Bradley King.

Rose is survived by:

Daughters Cheryl King of Mohawk, Michigan and Lynn Kitti of Mesa, Arizona

Sister-in-law Doreen Zagar of L’Anse, Michigan

Grandchildren Tracey (Jim) Teague, Kevin (Pam) King, Jay Kitti, Wendy (Dean) Bettack, and John (Annie) King

Great Grandchildren Brenna Teague, Sean (Tara) Fredericks, Hannah Bettack, Alicia Jarvi, Kayley (Trent) Ambuehl, Jake King and Ayla King

Also several nieces and nephew and cousins.

There will be a private family service for Rose with burial in Lake View Cemetery. Erickson-Crowley-Peterson Funeral Home will be assisting the family with arrangements.
