Obituary: Dawn M. Loonsfoot

Dawn M. Loonsfoot, age 61 of L’Anse, MI passed away Wednesday, December 7, 2022 at Bayside Village, L’Anse. She was born in Grand Rapids on August 7, 1961, the daughter of Ernest and Mary (LaJoie) Loonsfoot. Dawn attended high school in Grand Rapids and received her welding certificate from GRCC. She was member of the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community. Dawn enjoyed doing bead work, sewing, shopping, going to the casino and attending women’s retreats. She loved spending time with her family

Dawn is survived by her mother Mary Loonsfoot, children Bobbi Loonsfoot of Baraga, Scott (Kassidey Beck) Loonsfoot of Baraga, Fabian (Jordanne Gauthier) Loonsfoot of Baraga, Alicia Norman of Grand Rapids and Jessica Norman of Zeba, grandchildren Anthony, Chrelle, Desiree, Ross, Marissa, Layla, Lilianna, Andrea, Avien, Adrien, Antonio, Austin, Romario, Bryson, and Edwin, 8 great grandchildren, sisters Jean (Russ), Roseann, Vicki, Karen, Kathy (Ken), Cindy (Jerry), and Christine, brothers Bob, Allen (Rayetta), Wayne (Florence), Mike (Rhonda), and Tim (Kelly), numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews and great-great nieces and great-great nephews She is also survived by her special friend, Robert Crump, Jr. Dawn was preceded in death by her father, brother Ron Murray and husband Scott Burdick.

Traditional native services will take place at 12 p.m., Sunday, December 11, 2022 at the Ojibwa Senior Center Ceremonial Room, Baraga. The family will greet friends at the ceremonial room on Sunday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service. Immediately following the service, a traditional feast will take place. Spring interment will take place in the Baraga Cemetery.
