Microbeads will soon disappear from household products.
President Barack Obama has signed a ban on the tiny plastic beads used in personal cosmetic and hygiene products.
Michigan U.S. Representative Fred Upton was one of the sponsors of the measure to prohibit the manufacture and use of the plastic microbeads in rinse-off cosmetics.
The concern is that the microbeads are getting through municipal wastewater treatment plants and polluting lakes, rivers and oceans.
The ban on manufacturing the beads begins July 2017, but a phase-out of their use is expected to begin in a couple weeks.
