Number of Uninsured Michiganders Drops

New statistics from the US Census Bureau say that the number of people without health care coverage in Michigan fell during 2013. Supporters of the federal Affordable Care Act say it’s due in part to the state’s decision to extend Medicaid to more low income households in Michigan. The new report also shows however that just over one million Michiganders still did not have health insurance last year. That translates to about eleven percent. But the Michigan League for Public Policy, a welfare advocacy group notes that the number of uninsured is shrinking. The group credits Governor Rick Snyder and others who supported the Healthy Michigan Plan which made Michigan one of 27 states to expand Medicaid under the Affordable Care Act.
