Not Enough Skilled Trades Workers In Michigan

The number one problem facing Michigan is filing job positions with skilled workers, according to Stephanie Comai, director of the newly formed Michigan Talent Investment Agency.

She told those attending the Upper Peninsula Talent Summit Thursday in Marquette an aging workforce is leaving gaps that are not being filled by younger people.

She says the agency is working with the state Department of Education on developing a new career portal for students that will help them find careers that are in high demand in Michigan.

The agency is also trying to promote skilled trades in the state.
