No Voting Remotely Under Bill

People elected to serve on city councils or school boards couldn’t phone in a vote – or Skype one – under a bill advancing in the Michigan legislature.

The measure would require anyone voting to be at the meeting, in-person.

They could still take part in meetings remotely if there is no vote happening.

The rules wouldn’t apply to those appointed to serve on boards and commissions, which was a sticking point in year’s past.

The legislation passed the House last week and now awaits a hearing in a Senate committee.
