No-Reason Absentee Bill Meets Opposition in State Senate

The Michigan Senate could vote next week to break up a pair of bills that would change the way you vote on Election Day and the days leading up to it.

One of the bills would do away with straight-ticket voting while another bill would allow people to vote absentee without giving a reason.

The two are tie-barred, meaning each bill’s fate is reliant on the other being signed into law.

Amber McCann, spokeswoman for the Senate Republicans, says that’s not part of their plan.

She says the Senate will likely vote to disconnect the two next week.

She says the chamber will also likely vote on the straight-ticket voting bill but pass on no-reason absentee.
