Who is running for mayor of Flint? At this point, nobody.
No candidates have qualified for the ballot.
The city clerk’s office reportedly had told candidates for mayor and city council that they had until April 28 to turn in nominating petitions. Several did, but it turns out the deadline was April 21st according to the state, and the law doesn’t allow any last minute changes to that date.
One potential candidate did submit signatures on time, but there weren’t enough valid ones.
The matter may have to be settled with write-in campaigns, although the Gongwer News Service reports that local officials hope a court ruling will allow those who submitted nominating petitions to be on the August primary ballot.
