Saturday night’s lift bridge closure went very smoothly according to the Michigan Department of Transportation. The closure began at 9 o’clock Saturday night and was actually complete an hour early, opening to traffic at about 6 o’clock Sunday morning. MDOT Communications Director Dan Weingarten spoke about the possibility of future closures opening up earlier than expected.
Those two-hour closures were set to start taking place this Tuesday, but have been postponed with a date not yet scheduled. Weingarten adds that the 15 to 20 minute sporadic closures should start popping up beginning this week. The next big overnight closure is currently scheduled for March 21st.
