No Fee for Kayaks

Paddle craft watersports will remain a free activity in Michigan. The State Waterways Commission has decided yesterday that it will not proceed with it’s plans to tax owners of kayaks, canoes, and paddle boards.

The commission has been pushing for a law implementing a ten dollar annual fee per vessel, however after hearing an overwhelming response from this who oppose, the commission has passed a resolution that it will not pursue a fee for registration at this time.

Yesterday’s resolution implied that the commission may reattempt in the future. Meanwhile, the Senate Outdoor committee is already making preparations. That committee approved its own resolution yesterday that it opposes that type of fee. The vote was unanimous.
