Newberry Man Charged With Solicitation To Commit Murder

State Police at the Sault Ste. Marie Post have arrested an eastern Upper Peninsula man on charges of solicitation to commit murder.

37-year-old Jason Bufford of Newberry was arrested Monday following a lengthy investigation by State Police detectives and is currently lodged in the Luce County Jail.

Bufford was a Michigan Department of Corrections employee at the Newberry Correctional Facility. He was placed on an unpaid suspension last month.

Bufford was arraigned on the felony charge and is being held on $500,000 bond pending a preliminary examination on March 23. He faces up to life in prison if convicted.
