Michigan ranks tenth nationally in rate of women being murdered by men, according to a new study.
The study by the Violence Policy Center looked at 2013 homicide data and found women are murdered by men at a rate of one-point-45 per 100,000 in Michigan.
The report also says most women are killed by someone they know and the most common weapon used is a gun.
And for that reason, Linda Brundage of the Michigan Coalition Against Gun Violence, says the state needs more background checks to keep guns away from domestic abusers.
Brundage says Michigan doesn’t require background checks for rifles, at gun shows or buying on the internet.
The report comes ahead Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.
