New State Superintendent Contract Extended

New State School Superintendent Brian Whiston has received a one year extension on his contract.

On Wednesday he received high marks from the state Board of Education in his first annual evaluation along with the extension.

Whiston’s contract now runs through June of 2019.

Board chair John Austin says Whiston has started them on a path to lift education in Michigan in a new, dynamic and collaborative way.

Austin notes Whiston’s work with the education community, the Governor and the legislature, as well as his management of the Michigan Department of Education.
