New State Fire Marshall Needed

The Help Wanted sign is out for a new state fire marshal in Michigan following the resignation of Richard Miller on Friday.

Miller, who had been working under several contract extensions since his contract expired in March, served in the job for about three and a half years.

Governor Snyder has named Michael Deprez, former deputy director of the state Bureau of Fire Services, as interim state fire marshal until a permanent replacement can be found.

The fire marshal is the most senior fire official within the state and is the adviser to the governor and legislature on a wide range of issues relevant to fire safety, prevention and protection and is the chief advocate for fire safety for Michigan citizens and the fire protection community.
