The Upper Peninsula’s Delta County has a new sheriff.
The county’s Sheriff Appointment Board Monday appointed former Undersheriff Ed Oswald to the position succeeding Sheriff Gary Ballweg who is retiring with two years left in his current term.
Oswald retired from the Sheriff’s Department last December after 22 years on the job. He was the number two man for 10 years.
Oswald is scheduled to start October 18. He will hold the post until the end of 2016, when Ballweg’s term expires.
