New Law Allows Retired Federal Law Enforcement Officers To Concealed Carry In Schools

Governor Rick Snyder has signed legislation that allows retired federal law enforcement officers to carry concealed weapons in Michigan no-carry zones such as schools, hospitals and churches.

The bill adds retired federal law enforcement officers such as FBI and U.S. Marshals, who hold a concealed carry license, to the list of people exempt from the no-carry zone restriction. That list already includes retired police officers and retired law enforcement officers, who were certified as officers under State law.

Bill sponsors say the change eliminates the inconsistency of allowing retired State-certified law enforcement officers to conceal carry in no-carry zones, while not allowing retired federal officers to do the same.
