New Calumet manager learning the ropes

Amber Goodman is still learning the day-to-day operations of her new job as Calumet village manager, but she hopes to be a quick study. Goodman has worked for a decade in higher education and health care, having received her Masters in Business Administration recently from Ohio University.

She steps into a fluid situation with several important issues coming to a resolution, including the cleanup of the Fifth Street Fire.

So they said it was initially 60 days for FEMA. I know that progress is ongoing and I feel like we probably will be hearing things in the next couple weeks.

Another priority is repairing things between the Calumet Theatre Company and the Village Council.

There’s a developing relationship at this point, and so I think that going forward I think there’s progress being made.

Calumet lost a little over 100 residents, nearly 20 percent of its overall population, in the last census. Goodman says reversing the decline and improving the business climate are two goals she has set for early in tenure.

I would like to see the businesses recover from COVID. Also, encourage residents what a desirable community that we have here.

The village has a special council meeting tonight at 6:30. On the agenda is consideration of a new Theatre Lease Committee. Trustees want to incorporate more defined performance standards into the document.
