A Dollar Bay man convicted of murdering his wife has been turned down in his bid to have his appeal heard by the Michigan Supreme Court.
Nima Nassiri was convicted of second-degree murder following the beating death of Senaz Nezami in December of 2013. He is serving a 20 to 40 year sentence at the St. Louis Correctional Facility in lower Michigan.
Nassiri challenged the verdict, alleging that errors by his attorney denied him a fair trial. In April of this year, the Michigan Court of Appeals disagreed. Today, the Michigan Supreme Court declined to hear the case, saying the justices are “not persuaded that the questions presented should be reviewed by this Court.” See the full statement here.
The case gained international attention when Nezami’s family in Iran was brought to her bedside electronically by staff at UP Health System-Marquette, where she was being treated for her injuries, which eventually proved fatal. Nezami was a graduate student at Michigan Technological University.
