MTU's Women in Computing Organization Receives Grant

An organization at Michigan Tech that seeks to encourage young women to explore computing fields is getting a boost.

Tech’s Women in Computing Sciences has won a $3,000 Student Seed Fund grant from the National Center for Women and Information Technology.

The money will help the group increase membership and participation in their organization by allowing them to hold more regular meetings with speakers from campus and the industry.

Professor of Computer Science Linda Ott says a major new initiative will be outreach activities to encourage area high school girls to consider careers in computing.

The award was part of $95,000 in grants to Women in Computing groups at 19 colleges and universities.
