MTU Tops Michigan Schools In “Beyond College” Rankings

Michigan Tech led colleges and universities in Michigan and ranked fourth in the nation in a new kind of evaluation released recently by the Brookings Institution.

Brookings, a private, nonprofit research and policy think tank based in Washington, DC, calls its new assessment of two- and four-year colleges and universities “Beyond College Rankings.”

It measures what Brookings calls “value-added” factors such as the kinds of majors offered—particularly in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math), graduation rates, student loan repayment rates and the difference between predicted earnings and graduates’ actual earnings at mid-career and over a lifetime.

Michigan Tech’s combined score was the highest in the state. The University of Michigan-Ann Arbor was second and Lawrence Technological University was third.

Nationwide, using the same three-metric score, Michigan Tech was tied for fourth with the Georgia Institute of Technology.
