As evident through this past weekend’s Parade of Nations celebration, Michigan Tech prides itself on its diversity and once again, they are being honored for it. For the third year in a row, Michigan Technological University has received the Higher Education Excellence in Diversity award from INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine. The HEED award recognizes U.S. colleges and universities that demonstrate an outstanding commitment to diversity. Michigan Tech will be featured along with 82 other award-winning institutions in the magazine’s November 2014 issue. MTU Director of Institutional Equity Jill Hodges says there is a deep commitment at Tech to diversity and creating a campus culture that supports diversity. She adds that it’s empowering when an objective external organization commends the university for what they are doing. INSIGHT Into Diversity magazine selected Michigan Tech based on the University’s diversity and inclusion initiatives and commitment to a broad definition of diversity, including gender, race, ethnicity, veterans, people with disabilities, members of the LGBT community and others.
