New research at Michigan State University looks to crack down on fake and substandard prescription drugs.
MSU scientists say their work is unusual in that criminology theory is being applied in the public health field.
They say initial findings suggest that a country’s willingness to combat counterfeit and sub-standard medicines may be an indicator of a country’s stabilization.
They cited examples in Niger, Haiti, and elsewhere–but added that more research to confirm their work is likely needed.
