Michigan State University’s handling of a pair of Title Nine complaints may have led to a sexually hostile environment on campus, according to an investigation by the U.S. Department of Education.
Title nine is a federal law that prohibits discrimination based on sex.
In a report released Tuesday, the feds say the university did eventually investigate the two complaints thoroughly but didn’t handle the complaints properly out of the gate.
MSU President Lou Ann Simon concedes the university could have handled things better but adds it has been righting any wrongs over the last five years.
The university has agreed to 15 changes proposed by the feds to better respond to allegations of sexual assault on campus.
The University of Michigan is also being investigated for title nine complaints, however its report is not complete.
