As the fourth of July holiday draws closer, the Michigan State Police is reminding citizens to take extra safety precautions when handling fireworks. This year, due to a change in the Michigan law, consumers can now legally purchase more powerful fireworks including bottle rockets, sky lanterns and Roman candles. Among the safety measures the police are offering are to read and follow all warnings and instructions, never allow children to play with fireworks, always keep a hose or bucket of water nearby in case of malfunction and never try to re-light fireworks that have not fully functioned.
